Today, in the heart of Umm Suqueim, we enter the home of the most welcoming people I have ever met. Italian couple Marco and Cinzia are the founders of SmartRenovation, a very well known interior fit-out and project management company based in Dubai, composed by a full italian team and offering high quality design within a smart budget. Marco came to Dubai the first time in ’96, and after many years back in Italy and in Paris, he chose to install his family in Dubai five years ago, and his company is doing great. They have countless residential and commercial projects in the city, charming homes owned by expats and locals, fabulous offices and shops.
Cinzia is a beautiful young woman, super friendly and genuine. Her everlasting smile, paired by big bright blue eyes, make you want to stay around her for a long time. She is so positive and energetic, easygoing and passionate at the same time. She also hosts the best home-cooked dinners in the city, what else?
Always happy and warmhearted, the couple has moved from their Palm Jumeirah home to an old style villa, after they’ve renovated the house just next doors, and saw the high potential of it. Together they have created a home that they like to open to their friends and clients. Their passion for original elements and bright colours gives the house a pop style, creating an amazingly cosy space ideal for family living and social rendez-vous.
The office space has been created outside in the garden; with a pool view and lavish bouganvilleas around it, it’s the best place for their creatives minds.
Who is inviting the Sandy Side at home today?
Cinzia and Marco, italians, dubai lovers, parents of Ludovica and Maria Sole.
We work together for our company, SmartRenovation, that today is one of UAE’s most dominant renovation and project management companies. We have a group of selected contractors and suppliers who are there to help our clients turn their house to a dream home or to give their office or shop a complete makeover the smart way.
Cinzia, how do you manage working life and family needs?
Everything comes very natural for me. We wake up early in the morning, we have a nice big breakfast all together and I bring my daughters to school, then my working day starts. I go to see my clients or I bring them around to see suppliers and furniture shops to find nice pieces for their homes. In the free time I manage my kids actives and I love to prepare dinner for the family and for our friends. We always have a lot of people coming to our home, and I am very happy to welcome them in. I think my strength is being always positive and flexible!
Tell us the story of your home.
Last year we have been called from an Italian family to renovate their villa in Umm Suqueim, and when we entered that house we thought it was gorgeous and with an amazing potential. We fell in love with that big window and all the light that comes through. It also had a kind of classic structure that in Dubai is quite hard to find. We decided to move from our Palm Jumeirah home to be in a completely different area and landscape.
We have chosen a bright parquet floor and different colours for each room. The entrance is red, the dining room wall black, our daughters’s room turquoise and the master bedroom is aubergine.
Who was in charge of decorating the house?
Marco! He knew exactly what he wanted and we always agree. I am the one that usually go for the unexpected, like our red wall and the bathroom wallpaper. I like to play with colours, as long as there is a common thread along the house.
How would you define the style of your home?
Pop, colourful, cosy.
Which is your favorite object or piece of furniture in your home?
The guest bathroom sink. It is an original Olympia Ceramica, the concept is actually of a foldable bag. You can fold it and bring it with you! It is an interpretation of the contemporary life, so dynamic and always on the move. We saw it in the window of one of our suppliers and we bought it right away.
Do you think the kids understand a nice home decoration?
Absolutely yes! And I believe that if they grow up in a beautiful home they will surely know what a nice home decor is. It happened more than once that my elder daughter Ludovica had a judgment on some houses we had been, and I am sure she likes our job and she knows what it means.
Any good decoration tip?
Always have a trait d’union , a concept behind the home. When you decorate a house is like when you choose your clothes: not too minimal, not too much. Dare with balance, the key word is to match, to combine.
What is the best part of your job?
Meeting always new people, having good and true relationships with our clients and meeting their expectations. A satisfied client means the world to me! Every project is a new challenge and we always seek different inspirations to create the spaces; I love to research original and unique pieces around the city, discover new suppliers and galleries.
The day you will eventually leave Dubai, what would you miss the most?
My beloved friends. Dubai is a place where you make friends very easily, and at the same time you loose them because one day or the other they are gonna leave. I have been lucky because I have very deep friendships here. Anyway, for now we are not going anywhere!
One address to recommend in the city?
Sauce, it is my favorite shop ever! I love their clothes selection and they also have some very cool furniture pieces and a lot of accessories.
I love Galleria Mall, full of nice cafes and many Emirati walking around.
